Friday was the last day of “normal” camp. Next week we are going to have camp, but it will be for the kids that are not going to the overnight camp in Pennsylvania. We celebrated the ending of camp with an awards ceremony that honored the kids that earned super silver beads and have demonstrated characteristics of Christ and of being a good friend. After the ceremony and lunch, we went to the local roller skating rink for open skate.
The willingness of the youngest of the CHAT kids to try will never stop surprising me. I spent my time at roller dome with one of the Little Tykes (the four-seven year olds). The little girl I roller skated with was not the best skater of the little tykes, but she definitely was the most determined. From the moment we arrived she was excited about skating. Once her skates were on she gripped my right hand and off we went. Despite her slow shuffle and falling down from time to time, she did not give up or get upset. Instead, she kept going and was motivating me to keep skating with her once I started to get tired. This little girl has a joyful, persevering spirit that I can learn a lot from. She reminds me that we often need to keep going and try even if our pace is slow or if we fall down from time to time.
